Wisdom Tooth Removal Durham, NC

It is important for patients (teens and young adults especially) to periodically receive a thorough evaluation of wisdom tooth (third molar) development to be able to be advised of options regarding surgical removal versus continued monitoring. Sometimes 3D imaging is needed to determine the tooth’s relationship with adjacent anatomy, such as the inferior alveolar nerve or the sinuses. We would be happy to help you determine what treatment option is best for you. Dr. Matt served as an Exodontist in the U.S. Navy where he worked along side some of the Navy’s best oral surgeons, allowing him to receive exceptional training in the management of third molar extractions and their complications.

CBCT Imaging is not always indicated for extractions, any recommendation will be made based on existing radiographs (E.g. Panoramic radiograph).

Exparel also know is (Liposomal Bupivacaine injectable suspension) works by slowly breaking down and releasing local anesthetic over time.

We are finding that many parents and patients would prefer Exparel when it comes to treating post operative pain after 3rd Molar extractions and IV sedation. Studies have shown that there is increased risk for the patient when their first exposure to opioids is at a younger age. We have found that doing everything we can to prevent opioid addiction is what most patient’s want and need, and Exparel is what has allowed us to do this while keeping our patient’s comfortable right after surgery.

Towards the end of the case the Exparel is drawn up and injected around the surgical sites. Calculations are completed to determine dosage, this is based on the patient’s body weight and other local anesthetics used peri-operatively.

A surgical dental procedure known as extraction of impacted third molar was completed, now Exparel injection known as infiltration is taking place near the patient's surgical site. Long lasting post-op pain relief achieved.
