IV Sedation is a term commonly used to refer to moderate sedation. Moderate sedation is easily explained as a “twilight” type of sedation in which the patient is easily arousable and breathing on their own. Patients rarely remember their dental procedure or any discomfort.

Nitrous Oxide or laughing gas has been used for dental procedures since 1844, this tried and true method has a small number of contraindications that must be reviewed prior to administration. This type of anxiolysis and analgesia is easily provided to an eligible patient on a same day appointment, no escort or NPO guidelines required.

Oral sedation is a term commonly used to refer to minimal conscious sedation. This type of sedation requires an in office evaluation prior to treatment to determine eligibility. An oral sedative will then be taken prior to the dental procedure. An escort is required to drive the patient to and from their appointment.
